Artist Statement
My work explores the tension between whimsy and unease, drawing on motifs of fae, Celtic myth, magic, and death. I twist familiar imagery to evoke a fear of the unknown—inviting viewers into strange, delicate worlds where beauty and decay coexist. I primarily use pen, ink, and watercolor—mediums that carry a nostalgic, fairy-tale feel while embracing unpredictability. The messiness of ink and the muted tones of watercolor mirror the emotional uncertainty I want to convey. I’m drawn to heavily detailed pieces that reveal more the longer you look. Where a charming detail might slowly give way to something darker and more unsettling. Recurring themes in my work include scavengers, decomposition, and dark fantasy creatures, many inspirations of the imagined realms and stories of Dungeons & Dragons. I want viewers to feel as if they’ve stepped into another world, unsure if they are utterly alone or completely surrounded. Like walking through a quiet forest, the experience can be soothing or deeply eerie, depending on the person. To me, my art reflects decay and the evolving, personal relationship we have with nature. At first glance, it may feel whimsical or inviting, but the deeper you go, the more vulnerable it becomes, like realizing how little you truly know. My creative process is intuitive and fast-paced. I often work in one sitting, pulled in by daydreams and worlds I’ve built in my mind. I prefer to let the piece lead the way. My inspirations range from the detailed faerie works of Brian Froud to the games/animations of Don’t Starve, Omori, Gravity Falls, Hilda, and finally the concepts and worlds in homebrews like Into the Wyrd and Wild, and creative exercises like Inktober. These influences are particular to me and the media that I grew up engaging with. In the past I did prop work currently I am working on scientific illustration, story boarding, concept art, animation skills and commissions.
